Work edges forward on Thessaloniki metro

A tunnel drill dubbed Elli is expected to break ground at the Nea Krini station on Monday as work continues on the much-beleaguered construction of the Thessaloniki metro, the head of the company responsible for the project, Attiko Metro SA, has said.

Speaking about the metro’s extension into the populous suburb of Kalamaria, Yiannis Mylopoulos added that while construction will be delayed at the central stations of Venizelou and Aghias Sofias following the discovery of significant archaeological finds in the area, the northern port city should have its underground system delivered by 2020.
